00:52one more lap no I hate being here now she's not looking at the cause of her
00:56truly even being here all I hear is a lot of complaints don't tell me that all I
01:02see is a lot of defiance I'm done he wants to make sure he's alive he's a good
01:07father I'm starting to doubt that this is the hardest thing I've ever done in my
01:12life this is my fat really fat fat fat stomach I really want this to go away it would take away a
01:35lot if all this went away a lot would go with it when I look in the mirror now I
01:43just think happened to you how in the world did you let this happen if you
01:51would have told me when I was young at 37 you're gonna have two girls and they're
01:56not gonna live with you I would have said bullshit there's it you know I'm living
02:01in this life I don't even know who I am anymore I was a teenage mom I entered into
02:12this relationship that I didn't really want to be in and I got divorced after
02:1717 years of marriage and we've just been in a horrible custody battle throughout my
02:24whole marriage I was always between 130 and 140 literally from the minute the
02:30divorce papers were like filed I've just been I've gained 175 pounds
02:35I try to cram motherhood into a weekend it's not easy can you see why we've been
02:46coming here for 20 years it's beautiful every pound on me is related to my
02:54relationship with my children my daughters look at my photos and say look how pretty
03:00you were here mom why can't you look like that again you're so embarrassing I haven't
03:06met your boyfriend yet we've talked about a hundred times how are you
03:12good nice to meet you my oldest daughter is so embarrassed by me she doesn't want me to meet
03:19her new boyfriend what are y'all doing today this is about it
03:35dang mamaw this is good thank you one of the hardest things about being a big
03:41person we get depressed about how we feel and then we eat more to deal with that depression and
03:47then we get bigger so we just get more depressed it's like a vicious cycle as a kid my mom's idea of
03:53a good meal is like a candy bar so they've always been like weight issues and when you become an adult
03:59it's all just emotional baggage that you carry with you every day and it's very very hard it's very hard to
04:05deal with if I stay the way I am I'm just gonna end up dying and it's just gonna be hard on my
04:10family I just can't stand the thought of them going through pain because of me oh I love him so
04:24much and I don't want to be the naggy wife but it's like when I think about the real possibility that he
04:30could die that scares me to death you ready catch it all right I want to be a good dad and I want to
04:39be a good role model for my son but I can't run I get tired very easily Donnie come on it's time to
04:46go in we're gonna get some dessert I don't know what exactly it is but I cannot figure out how to help
05:00I guess food is the only thing that loves me anymore I just feel like I'm constantly in this
05:10whirlwind and I cannot find something to hold on to that a week or two goes by that there's not like
05:18a phone call while I'm at work where she's really down and really gives me a lot of concern for worry
05:24I want someone to reteach me how to live and how to not turn to food for depression do you have joint
05:39pains or back pains normally when I wake up in the morning I can barely move and my knees are really
05:47bad there's so many different pathways to eating too much take a big breath in and out for me she's a
05:54little different than some of the other patients because her weight came on after an event she she
06:00has it timed to a point in her life when she became depressed but you can see how it's sort of an excuse
06:06every day that you let this continue is a day where your health's declining right incrementally she's
06:13the kind of person that has a heart attack or heart failure or stroke your risk of just staying at
06:20your current weight is is pretty high you need to reduce the weight
06:25hey Mr. Berryhill how you doing Dr. Marvin hi Dr. nice to meet you Travis uh he's been obese since
06:41childhood big breath in now now he's in a situation where if he continues to do what he's doing now he's
06:47just not going to live to a normal life expectancy I don't think there's any question your body mass index
06:51is 63 on today's measurement normal is 20 to 25 this is a dangerous situation for you you really need
07:00to find a way to turn this around I think you need to do something about it right now
07:03it's gonna be a hard process to be able to go from where I am now to a healthier place and I know it's
07:18gonna be probably the hardest thing I've ever done I'm just scared of not being the same and I'm scared
07:24of being the same if I lose weight I'll be able to do so much better for my family it's now or never
07:30pretty much for me I feel like because I've always been grasping at straws and trying to find something
07:36I am right on the cusp I could either go and become healthy again or I'm gonna die
07:42starting last night I just I really couldn't sleep at all I was like a bundle of nerves and I'd be lying if

08:40can't escape my first impression of Lindy she's gonna be trouble and she's gonna challenge me so are we

08:52five six hours she's gonna definitely try and give me a really hard time I could tell that from
08:57the beginning do you have your bag with you yeah it's right over here okay you know my first thought
09:02about Travis was he really seemed personable he seemed like you really wanted it oh this is your
09:09daughter's no it's my son your sons yeah he gave that to me okay kind of make me choke up I found out
09:14he had a son and another son on the way I want you looking at that every day cool I mean if he
09:20doesn't have the motivation now he'll never have it all right let me get some love Travis all right

09:37good morning yes when she walks in and mr. Travis good morning let's get a warm up in okay move move move
09:55here we go we paired up these individuals so that they have someone else to relate to someone else
10:02that's going through the same problems that they're dealing with how do y'all feel here you're killing
10:06me kill me train now when I first started working with Travis I expected a lot more out of him go
10:13straight down kick your elbows out it was just a struggle to get him going six you got 20 of these
10:21seven there you go shoot what what do you have when I need a towel each one counts you're not
10:28just pulling your crack and your walnut each time Travis and Lindy you know they wanted to be there
10:33because they signed up but they didn't really know what they were getting into you're on your knees
10:38that is uncomfortable I really felt immediate resistance from Lindy fill your chest fill your
10:46triceps Lindy's giving me a lot of kickback and she's not working hard enough to be struggling that
10:54much 15 seconds left oh my god doing this like faking this 19 come on good job good job I'm ready to eat
11:10right now the first 30 days they follow a 1,200 calorie to 2,000 calorie meal plan depending on
11:23their height and weight and how about these portion sizes huh this is just really tiny to me this is
11:33an addiction they're addicts and going through withdrawals can get ugly I think the chef had the
11:39busboy cook the fish today oh my gosh I have a feeling that I'm going to die how am I going to
11:48survive if I don't have the food I need to survive quick quick quick quick quick heel toe heel toe heel
11:57toe heel toe down there back good come on you're almost done Travis you're almost done first week here
12:05it's been an adjustment there's going to be a lot of pain in the first week and they're going to have
12:12to get their bodies to where they can do this can you give me one more lap no yes that will be the
12:19challenge getting them to feel okay with hurting and feeling pain I don't care if you got to walk it
12:24walk it walk it there you go but still pump those arms walk and abs in yeah push let's go let's go let's
12:33go 30 seconds down you got 30 seconds more the first week there's been some up and downs of course
12:39emotionally and physically oh god what are you gonna tell yourself baby when it's hard like this I don't
12:45know you don't know why you're here yes there is a lot of negativity going on I mean the attitudes
12:55are completely down I do not like step class we're going to learn to dance today we're going to love it
13:01today yes very good we started off the workout today I felt the sarcasm was a little extra but
13:09we're working on positivity so sarcasm isn't positive you know one of Travis's biggest arguments
13:16is that he's here for his children after getting to know Travis a little bit I'm starting to doubt
13:22that so you're happy to get through with your workout so you can get home yeah every workout is one more
13:27closer to getting home and what are you going to do to keep what you've learned here I was thinking
13:33about going in a couple of cases of ice cream maybe like a couple of DVDs he is saying things
13:39to cover up that he's scared of the world he's scared of himself there you go hands a little
13:44bit water 19 help yourself out in this one they had me doing extreme like hardcore workouts how the
13:51is this right this is the easy one 20 oh I miss my family so much and I'm starving

14:14you start 284 okay yeah so 431.2 425 today that's awesome good job despite their bad attitudes they're
14:31still making progress but let's be honest they're in a controlled environment right now if they don't
14:37get rid of this negativity by the time they leave they're not going to make a permanent lifestyle change
14:41change I'm feeling kind of nervous a little a little nauseous actually
14:59this therapy the purpose for it is to make sure that you've addressed and resolve every piece of
15:19your past um I don't want to talk about this goes too deep no it's just no one's business
15:30seeing the therapist to me was it was kind of invasive so I was a little obstinate and kind
15:38of an ass during the whole thing I don't like bullshit conversation excuse my French
15:43I want to go home I hate being here now I'm so pissed I'm sick of all these people I'm sick of this place

16:03she's working really hard but I'm not sure what's driving her

17:14concern is she's not looking at the cause eight nine ten what am I doing I'm missing the first month

20:30portion control is something that my family is definitely going to have to work on
20:33even if we eat healthy we'd still eat way too much of it

20:43most people know fast food is bad for them and that vegetables are good for them
20:47so it's really focusing on behavior change and dealing with the triggers and temptations
20:53sorry I was just looking at the brie because that's another thing I do
20:56Dave and I would sit with a couple bottles of wine and have this
21:00you know somebody like Lindy you know trying to follow a vegetarian lifestyle
21:03a lot of people have the perception that vegetarian okay that person should be healthy skinny as a rail
21:08so this is like a thousand calories so if you're splitting it 500 calories 100 calories for each glass of wine
21:14now you're seeing where it all came from
21:16yeah
21:17so how many cookies would you have in one sitting
21:19five or six
21:20five or six
21:21so six cookies would be 320 calories almost an entire meal
21:25Travis he's just munching on cookies and you know kind of grazing all day long
21:30for somebody like that they just have to be away from the temptations
21:33and the family's got to be on board with that
21:35okay we're putting in our house
21:37okay nine chips for 140 calories
21:40okay so if you're looking at like 800 calories for just chips and salsa
21:44which is like two meals
21:45you're talking about eating at a Mexican restaurant
21:47before you even get your food you already consume like a thousand calories
21:50yeah we're eating a plate full of like cheese enchiladas
21:53oh my
21:54three or four thousand calories
21:56dang
21:57it was really eye-opening that the majority of my problem is eating out too much
22:00basically out to dinner is gonna have to stop
22:03we're both probably doing about sixteen to twenty thousand calories a week going out to eat
22:10and that's gaining about three to five pounds a week
22:13basically it's just horrible eating
22:17it's for my wife it says I picked the right man to have kids with
22:24and don't try to deny it they're definitely yours

22:30really struck a chord with me that I really need to do something
22:32because I missed out on so much so many activities that I could be doing with my first son
22:36that I really don't want to miss out on that with my second son

23:43that's the part that's more deep and personal when your thoughts go to your daughters

23:53I've got to get better mentally and emotionally and physically
23:57I mean if I'm dead my kids don't have me at all
24:00this opportunity to just cut off the outside world for a little while and focus on me
24:06it's been a real gift because the stronger I am when I walk out of here
24:11the stronger I'll be able to fight the battle of the real world when I get out

31:49planning for the wedding and all of that was extremely stressful
31:54now I definitely know why people hire wedding planners
31:58and that was part of my weight gain that week

32:05you know she said she wasn't going to have any alcohol
32:08so I want to get to the bottom of this
32:15so what's been going on with your weight loss?
32:18um it's not been as fast as I want it to be
32:23I don't know I'm working out four or five hours a day and I feel like I'm not losing weight

32:41you know she's still using food as a reward for herself and that can be dangerous when you're trying to lose weight

32:50I think that's going to be a major improvement for you is keeping track of portion sizes in your food log

34:17There's so many positives that really outweigh the negatives that's going on in my life.
34:22That when I start to dwell upon the negatives, I need to push that away and I need to think about the positives.

34:32I think the biggest thing for anybody trying to make a change in their life is just the fear of the change.
34:38Dieting has probably been my biggest challenge, just being able to not eat what I want to eat.

34:50But I have been getting a lot better about that.
34:52I think I've been doing a really good job as far as my meals go.
34:54I know that there's choices and that I have control over my body.
