00:51This is insane, because I have all of Pretty Reckless here

00:54Oh my god, I'm so excited

00:57The band's all here

00:58The band is all here and ready to go

01:01And you guys look amazing

01:03I got, of course, Lady T, the one and only Taylor Momsen

01:05All of a sudden, Matt Murray, who's like, you know

01:08He shows up early for things

01:10I'm like, wait a minute, I know because Taylor is coming

01:13I haven't seen her in a long time

01:14It's been a minute

01:15Yeah, since your 21st birthday party in Atlantic City

01:19Wow

01:20That was an evening

01:22That's a, story's not for the air

01:24But that was a fun evening

01:25Matt is the king of Atlantic City

01:27And he never forgets anything

01:29So, um

01:29Well, she kept me, we stayed off till like 6, 7 in the morning

01:32It's ridiculous

01:32All of a sudden, live on air takes a whole new, uh

01:35A whole new, a whole new meaning, baby

01:37Well, we're among, we're among friends

01:39Look, I have to tell you

01:41I wanted you guys on this bill so badly

01:44So when we were confirmed to have you on the bill

01:47And of course, right, under Breaking Benjamin

01:49That, for me, was the Rock, the Rockfest show

01:52How excited was I about that?

01:53It was, it's, I mean, the Pre-Reckless

01:55Is definitely leveled up with every record

01:57And, you know, it's, had to have them

02:00Had to have them

02:01An amazing, amazing rock and roll band

02:03And a groundbreaking lady

02:04She has, you know, the most, uh, number one singles

02:08And the band has the most number one singles

02:09By a female-fronted band at Rock Radio ever

02:11And Matt and I are as old as The Furniture

02:13So we've been in Rock Radio forever

02:15So for me to be able to see that in my career

02:19In my 25 years at DHA

02:23For me, it was a big freaking deal

02:27Thank you

02:28And you have young furniture

02:29Yes, very young furniture

02:31You know, like I say too, Terry, real quick

02:33They were, like, the first band that put out an album during COVID

02:37They, like, had the album ready

02:39No one was putting anything out

02:40And they are the ones that said, screw it, it's done

02:42We're putting it out

02:43We'll re-figure out how to promote this thing

02:46And they were, like, one of the first ones to do that

02:48And you guys were so supportive

02:49Let's talk a little bit about that

02:50I mean, I can't believe it has been

02:53Almost two years

02:54I know, right?

02:56Crazy

02:56Time flies

02:56Yeah, and the record is just as fresh

02:58So let's talk a little bit about

03:01I want to talk about some of the tunes on that record

03:04And then we're going to talk about the future

03:05But I watched all the videos, too, over the last couple of days

03:08And I thought how visually stunning everything is

03:11Thank you

03:11That was a feat of nature

03:13To get those videos made during COVID

03:14It was

03:15Videos are always challenging

03:17Because I take them very seriously

03:18Probably too seriously

03:19But to get them done during quarantine and COVID

03:23That was certainly a struggle

03:25And I'm very proud with how they turned out

03:26The bi-coastal video of Only Love Can Save Me Now

03:29Oh, that was crazy

03:29With Matt Cameron and Kim Thale in Seattle

03:31They shot in Seattle over FaceTime

03:33I was directing via FaceTime

03:34Were you really?

03:35It was trying to make it look cohesive to what we filmed in New York

03:38They're shooting in Seattle

03:39And trying to make it look like we're in the same space

03:40I'm trying to think

03:41What did I post last night?

03:42Oh, and so it went

03:43And I just thought, my God

03:44You know, everything about this video is just so incredible

03:48And amazing

03:50And 25

03:5025, yeah

03:5325 was the first one we did

03:54Blued me away

03:55I mean, doors off, off, off

03:57Now, are you sort of the architect?

03:59Because obviously you're all the architect of the sound of the band

04:02But are you also the architect of everything that visually happens?

04:04Yes

04:05Yes

04:05I'm so

04:06It's, yeah

04:07You've directed all the videos

04:09I've directed all the videos with, you know

04:10Partners, you know

04:12Because I can't work a camera

04:13But yes, it's all

04:15It's a visual expression of the music

04:17So I don't

04:18Handing that off to someone else has never felt natural to me

04:21Because you're an amazing storyteller

04:22Thank you

04:23You're an amazing storyteller

04:24The writing between you guys and the band is incredible

04:27But you, the way you deliver songs

04:30You're a storyteller

04:31And I always say that rock radio loves songs

04:34We're very song-driven

04:35We need songs

04:36Yes

04:36You know, you can be an awesome live band

04:38And there's something to be said for that

04:39And we love that

04:40And it's great

04:40But, you know, for me being somebody who programs a radio station

04:44We love incredible songs

04:45Yes

04:46And you are very song-driven

04:48Thank you

04:49Thank you for noticing

04:50Yeah, thank you for noticing that

04:51Yeah

04:52And I also, you know

04:53I think when I hear somebody like a Stevie Nicks

04:55Talk about the songs

04:56That are her babies

04:58And her heart and everything

04:59I think you kind of probably come from a place like that too

05:01A hundred percent

05:02There's no

05:03Every song is

05:04I always say every song is like a child

05:06And everyone always asks you to pick a favorite one

05:08And I go, you can't pick a favorite kid

05:09Like, that's just mean to the other kids

05:11Now, like, you know

05:12Some days you like that child more than the other child

05:14But at the end of the day

05:15You love them all equally

05:16And, you know

05:17You put your blood, sweat, and tears into them

05:19And it's so amazing to have rock radio

05:22And, you know

05:23Supporters like you

05:24And the fans who listen and connect to it

05:27And actually seem to

05:29It seems to touch them on a very primal, real level

05:33And that's like the highest compliment you can get as a songwriter

05:35So it's just

05:36It's so incredible to see that

05:37And the fan base is incredible

05:39Incredible

05:39You have an amazing fan base

05:41I have people that are hitting me up

05:42Coming from out of state

05:43I think somebody's coming from Brazil

05:45And they're staying in New York

05:47And I mean, this is just a crazy, crazy fan base

05:49What is it about your love affair?

05:52The band's love affair

05:53Not just Taylor

05:54But, you know, the band's love affair with the fans

05:56I think it's

05:58Music is this universal language

06:00That can bring everyone together

06:02No matter where you're from

06:03And I think that

06:03You know, for me

06:04The bands that I grew up loving and still love

06:06Like, I have this kind of soul connection with them

06:08Even if I don't know them

06:09And I think that that's so powerful

06:12And it's so real

06:14And it's so deep

06:15And I think that the fact that our fans

06:16I feel like they feel that with us

06:19And we feel that with them

06:20And that's such a beautiful thing

06:22Like, you know, to travel the world

06:24And to go to countries that don't even speak English

06:26And they can barely say hello in English

06:28But they can sing every word to every song

06:29It's just the craziest feeling

06:32And it's so rewarding as a songwriter

06:34To know that we wrote something

06:36That is touching people

06:37And, you know, possibly helping them

06:38Or encouraging them

06:39Or whatever the feeling is

06:41That they're getting from that

06:42But it means something to them

06:44And that's so cool

06:45Because it means so much to me

06:46So it's cool that I can share that

06:47And we can share that

06:48And have it mean something to them

06:50It's just

06:51It's a very nice full circle

06:52Thing

06:54And they're so supportive

06:57It's like this weird little, you know

06:58Connection of family

07:00You know, rock and roll

07:01Has kind of always been the underdog

07:02And it's so great to have a community

07:05That, you know, as a fan

07:06And as an artist

07:07That you can turn to

07:08And you always have this kind of support system

07:10And you guys have this amazing connection

07:12Together as a band

07:12I mean, the chemistry is just awesome

07:14Awesome, awesome

07:15And I just love seeing you

07:17When you're all together

07:19We've all known each other a long time

07:20A very long time now

07:21I really want to make a sarcastic comment

07:23I won't ruin the moment

07:24Insert sarcastic comment here

07:26It's a beautiful, it's a beautiful moment of love

07:27This is actually the nicest we've all been together

07:29I love that

07:30Mark doesn't have a microphone

07:34That's what family is all about
