Woman killed in drive-by shooting in Sydney’s south west

A 65-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound in a drive-by shooting at a home in Ambarvale. Paramedics and police treated the woman, who was shot in the leg, but she died at the scene.

00:00It's been quite a tragic turn of events here in Sydney's southwest and while the police

00:07are starting to pack up their gear they have spent all morning combing through the property

00:12looking for evidence to try and piece together what just happened.

00:15But what we do know is that emergency services were called to the home behind me in Sydney's

00:21southwest suburb of Ambervale just near Campbelltown after 11pm last night after reports a woman

00:27had been shot and when the police and the paramedics arrived at the scene they found a 65 year

00:33old woman suffering a gunshot wound to her leg and while they treated her and tried to

00:39save her she unfortunately died at the scene.

00:42Now we also know there was a 34 year old man and a 21 year old woman who was at home at

00:48the time but luckily they escaped injury free.

00:51Now it's not quite known who's behind this attack and whether it was targeted or not

00:57but police say that it was carried out after multiple shots were fired at the house, fired

01:05at the house before the drivers sped away.

01:09And we spoke to some of the, one of the neighbours rather in the area about what they heard regarding

01:16the incident.

01:17Let's take a quick listen to what they had to say.

01:20I straight away got up and had a look out the back window to see if there was a car on

01:24fire or if there was any noticeable.

01:26I couldn't see anything initially.

01:28Um, and then within 20 minutes I went to bed and my whole bedroom just lit up with the,

01:33um, the lights off the police vehicles.

01:36To know that an elderly woman has passed away it's just devastating.

01:40Um, it would be, it would be just horrible, I couldn't imagine it would be just horrible.

01:45Now as the family try and deal with this shocking news today police have established a crime scene

01:51as you can see behind me and they're urging anyone in the public with information to contact

01:56the crime stoppers.
