New South Wales Police now have two crime scenes to scour as investigations continue into the
00:08
shooting death of 22 year old Osama Mamani last night here in Winston Hills in what police are
00:13
already describing as a targeted attack. Emergency services were called to the scene on Regiment
00:19
Grove in Winston Hills at about 7pm last night after reports of gunshots. Witnesses have told
00:24
police Mr Mamani was shot while sitting in a white sedan. Vision from the scene last night
00:30
shows broken glass on the passenger side window of that white sedan that Mr Mamani was sitting in
00:35
with another person. We understand he was sitting in the passenger seat at the time and that second
00:41
occupant of the vehicle is currently assisting New South Wales Police with their enquiries. Police say
00:46
they believe it was at least one gunshot that struck and killed Mr Mamani. What we understand is that
00:52
shortly after being struck by that bullet, Mr Mamani has made his way out of the vehicle. He has
00:58
stumbled into a cul-de-sac of nearby homes where he's tried to gain the assistance of residents. What
01:05
we understand from New South Wales Police is that he was unable to gain assistance shortly after
01:10
emergency services arrived on the scene. We understand he was unresponsive when he was treated
01:15
by emergency services before being transported to Westmead Hospital where he later died. Police are
01:21
currently working on the understanding it was a single shot that was fired. At the same time they've
01:27
also stopped short of making a link to organised crime or any gang affiliations. I share their
01:33
concern about any public place shooting. Our officers are out obviously seeking to prevent these
01:40
offences. I know there's already investigations that are ongoing and being targeted by other sections
01:45
of our organisation. But locally we are out looking for these offenders. Now this early
01:50
stage it would indicate that this is a targeted shooting and whilst our investigations will continue
01:59
in that regard I just want to reassure the public that their local police and the New South Wales
02:03
Police are out there seeking to prevent these shootings and bring these persons before the court as soon as possible.
02:09
Police say a burnt out SUV discovered at about 11pm last night in Old Toon Gabby, a short distance from
02:16
where we are now in Winston Hills in Sydney's west, is being investigated as possibly linked to Mr Mamani's death
02:23
last night. Police however have stopped short in making a link between last night's shooting and the death of 39 year old
02:30
Gilbert Sheenow on Sunday night in Sydney's inner western suburbs in what's been described by police as another
02:37
targeted public shooting. Now New South Wales homicide now have two crime scenes to work with as these
02:44
investigations into Mr Mamani's death continue.
02:47
We will continue.
