A recently resigned member of the United National Congress has officially aligned himself with the People's National Movement ,making a public declaration of his new political allegiance.

Senior Counsel Larry Lalla addressed PNM supporters at a public meeting held at the Exodus Pan Yard in Tunapuna on Saturday night, stating that while he spent years trying to improve the UNC, he had always admired the PNM from a distance.

00:00After nearly three decades with the United National Congress, attorney-at-law Larry Lalla
00:06says he tried tirelessly to help rebuild the party following its 2015 loss at the polls.
00:13However, when his efforts bore no fruit, he made the decision to shift his political allegiance.
00:19Lalla didn't just roll off his bed one morning and decide he was going to jump ship and support
00:25the PNM. It is the culmination of years of putting my name, professional reputation,
00:33time, effort into an attempt to get the UNC to become a better and more appealing version
00:42of itself, similar to what Dr Rowley has been able to achieve with the PNM.
00:48Appearing on a PNM political platform for the first time since resigning from the UNC
00:53in February, he says his attempt on the party-led slate in the UNC's internal elections was
00:59his last bid to reform a party he felt needed serious changes.
01:05In all our efforts, we did not succeed largely because of Mrs Possad-Bissesser's control
01:11of the election machinery in the party. At all times, though, I could not help but admire
01:19the PNM in the way the party was organized and run.
01:25On Saturday, he said opposition leader Kamala Possad-Bissesser valued holding onto her post
01:31more than taking the steps necessary to improve the party to better serve the country.
01:37Judging by the poor candidates of questionable character and lack of genuine qualifications
01:44that she, through her absolute control over the party executive, was choosing for the party,
01:51particularly in its safe seats, and having given nine years of my life to attempting
01:56to get that party to change, I can safely say with a clear conscience,
02:02Be hopeless! Great is the PNM! Great is the PNM! Great is the PNM! And we shall prevail!
