In response to a question from TV6 News, the Prime Minister gave an update on the talks between the Trade Minister and U.S. Embassy officials yesterday relative to U.S. President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs on global imports including a 10 per cent tariff on Trinidad and Tobago.

The PM said there should be no concern about exports of petroleum and LNG from this country.

00:00I received an update from the Trade Minister. She has also, the Ministry of
00:03Trade and Industry, has also put out a release and I saw it being reported in
00:08the media this morning that they have already made certain assessments with
00:12some of the products that we export, for example petroleum and LNG, and that
00:17those will not attract tariffs. As I say this is a preliminary assessment. We are
00:21still engaged. Yesterday was the first meeting. I have not directly involved
00:25myself as yet. The Ministry of Trade will do the preliminary work and then of
00:29course we have other means that we're utilizing to find out how these may
00:34affect Trinidad and Tobago.
