00:00With information now in the public domain concerning past business dealings
00:04between government minister Adrian Leonce and an alleged gang leader
00:09operating out of the UK, TV6 News asked minister in the Ministry of National
00:14Security, Keith Scotland, whether there is any active investigation into the MP.
00:20I have no comment relative to that question. I have no such information in
00:26my possession which I can share with you. No useful contribution. Minister
00:32Leonce has since denied all allegations of wrongdoing or gang affiliation and is
00:37now seeking legal advice against persons who named him in the matter. TV6 News
00:43also asked Scotland to comment on the incidents of police killings this year.
00:4823 police killings in and we're just in March. What is your sentiment about this?
00:53Those are matters that more likely than not will be sub judice and I would
00:58prefer not to comment on that either at this point in time. The comparative
01:03period January to March 22nd 2024 recorded a total of 14 police involved
01:10killings. Meantime with the state of emergency due to come to an end on April
01:1513th, Minister Scotland says there is no consideration at this time of seeking an
01:21extension of the SOE if the PNM retains government. There was a meeting of a
01:26National Security Council yesterday afternoon. What Trinidad and Tobago can
01:31look forward to is an increased police presence throughout Trinidad and Tobago
01:37along with all the organs of national security to ensure safety. I will say to
01:44you that we are still not satisfied with the levels of crime in Trinidad and Tobago.
01:50I will be honest but we intend not to bury our heads in the sand and to work
01:55assiduously to try to make Trinidad and Tobago a safer place. A total of 94
02:01murders have been recorded for the year thus far.
