00:00I think someone not voting makes me even angrier than someone voting for the other side.
00:14At least someone voting for the other side has values and ideas they want to make sure get heard.
00:21Someone who doesn't vote is saying,
00:23Hey, I know that people have fought for my right to do this and I know that every voice matters, but I don't care.
00:30I don't really care what happens to me or my family or my friends.
00:34I don't really care what happens to my neighbors or to kids or to old people.
00:38I don't care what happens to my city, my county, my state, my country.
00:43I just don't care. I'm just trying to get mine and get on.
00:47My name is Andre Durham. I am 30 years old.
00:50I live in Oklahoma.
00:52For the last eight years, we've had a governor who had full support of the legislative body
01:01for her to put forward an agenda that has economically crippled our state.
01:07For us, this election is about what can we do to save Oklahoma before it's too late
01:21so that we can turn around our state so that we can be at the top of lists that are good
01:29as opposed to the top of lists that are bad.
01:31We need to be able to fund education.
01:33We need to be able to get a grip on our prison populations.
01:37We need to be able to save our environment and turn that around.
01:41The most important thing I think a U.S. Congress representative can do
01:45is to call out the administration on their stuff.
01:49I don't think it's a secret that our current occupant at the White House
01:54has pretty much not said anything true in the last, oh, I don't know, five years.
02:02Which is a bit of an exaggeration, I know.
02:06But truth be told, there are some very dangerous policies being put into place.
02:13So there are some very dangerous ideas and rhetoric being touted about.
02:17If the House of Representatives and the Senate don't do something,
02:22this country will go down a path of darkness.
02:26And we need a representative, regardless of what party they're from,
02:30to stand up and be like, no, this is bad and a dumb idea.
02:35We can't stand for this.
02:37It seems that only representatives from one of the two major parties
02:42seem to be standing up and doing that,
02:44whereas the other party seems to be putting party before country,
02:48which is not what we were founded to be.
02:57The biggest misconception about moderate Democrats
03:03is that anyone who's to the right of us
03:06just sees all folks to the left as being the same ilk,
03:11as being pinko short commies, for lack of a better term,
03:16which clearly is not true.
03:18The Democratic Party is a big tent.
03:20We have folks all across the spectrum.
03:22I say the majority of the party is probably moderate to moderate liberal,
03:26just like I'm sure the Republican Party is mostly moderate conservatives,
03:29even though some of the loudest folks on that side
03:32seem to be further right than probably what most of the party actually is.
03:36I am a staunch Democrat.
03:38I'm not a Republican with a D next to my name,
03:41as I've heard some folks call other moderates before.
04:02I feel overwhelming despair nine times out of ten
04:06because it's not just that the 45th president
04:11is doing terrible, awful things,
04:14but it's the fact that he's getting away with doing terrible, awful things.
04:18And I don't even think it's a blue-red thing.
04:21I think if Obama had done this, people would have freaked out.
04:24I think if George W. had done these kind of things,
04:27people would have freaked out.
04:29It's something about him
04:32that folks have been so blinded by his, I don't know, magnanimousness
04:39that he just has this loud, strong following
04:46that is, what, 25% of people who take political polls
04:51seem to like him and love him still,
04:53despite the fact that he is slowly destroying our country
04:56and our relationship with allies.
04:58Every day I try to sit and think of something that's been happening
05:02that can make me say,
05:04hey, maybe our current president is not a complete dunce.
05:08And every day I can't think of a single thing
05:11that he has done or led that has had a positive impact on our country.
05:17But when I think about this new swell of blue-wave candidates,
05:23and even just having more moderate conservatives
05:26and moderate Republicans finally starting to speak up and say,
05:29hey, that guy in the White House doesn't speak for me.
05:32He doesn't speak for true conservativism.
05:35Here's what I actually believe.
05:37And we're starting to have ideas come back to the forefront again,
05:40which I think is amazing.
05:42And so that's what gives me hope.
