00:00The percentage of Americans identifying as independents has now hit a new record high.
00:04That's according to a January Gallup poll that found that 45% of Americans now fit into that bucket.
00:09This chart here shows from 1990 to the present day, and as you can see, independents are taking off while both Democrats and Republicans now represent 27% of the population.
00:19And younger Americans are really driving this trend with 56% of Gen Z and 54% of millennials identifying as independents.
00:26We've also recently seen a shift within the independent group in how many people say that they lean Republican versus Democrat.
00:33And since 2025, it seems that more people are saying that they are Democratic-leaning independents versus Republicans.
00:40The bottom line is, it seems that more and more Americans are disillusioned with our two-party system.
00:45But within this big bucket of independents, most people seem to lean one direction or the other.
