Cardiff: Why aren’t young people drinking as much anymore?

With the amount of young people drinking alcohol reportedly going down in recent years, we’re asking the people of Cardiff why they think that is.

00:00When I was young, there were no video games, there was no, you know, Netflix, TV,

00:07so our socialising was going out, so, you know, I was in the military,

00:13so when we weren't on duty, we were out, you know, drinking.

00:19Yeah, I mean, I don't really drink much, I'm a young person,

00:22lots of my friends don't really.

00:24I mean, it's still big, you know, lights out are always happening in Cardiff,

00:28but I do think there's less pressure these days to do it,

00:31and people are more understanding and sober curious, I guess, as people say.

00:35There's more ways to have a good time than just going out and drinking.

00:39Absolutely, but I don't drink myself, and that's how I do it.

00:42Everything's so much more expensive these days, isn't it?

00:44Like, a pint was £2.30, it's now £5, so it's just the money.

00:51Pay isn't enough, living wages have gone up,

00:56so I think it is because everything has gone up in price.
