Transcript
00:00She's always been very upfront with her experience.
00:02Social media is so much about the good, the shiny parts, right?
00:07But Navi didn't care. She always wanted to share the downside as well.
00:14Cancer is a devastating disease, but Vashnavi Bhuvanendran battled it with courage.
00:22Better known as Navi Indran, she was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was only 22.
00:30After going into remission, she became deeply passionate about breaking the stigma surrounding
00:35cancer and openly talked about her experience so she could help others.
00:42A lot of people who were going through the journey similar to Navi could relate to her.
00:45Those who had parents or loved ones going through a similar journey could relate.
00:52And when she passed, a lot of them contacted me, showing that Navi was such a beacon to them.
01:00If Navi can do it at such a young age, then they could do it as well.
01:04She inspired and impacted many, and this was evident even after her passing.
01:11During the funeral, there was a flood of people.
01:15The day before the funeral, a lot of people came to pay their respects.
01:19They would come up to me and say that,
01:20I would just like to go and pay my last respects to Navi.
01:22I've never met her in real life, but for many years I've been following her.
01:26I've got messages as far as Africa, from South Africa, from Zimbabwe and Kenya, to India,
01:34texting me saying that they have followed Navi for many years.
01:40Cedric shares that Navi was a jovial person who loved Bharatanatyam dance, painting, cooking
01:47and baking, and was known for making delicious tea.
01:52They first met in university, but it wasn't until the pandemic that they got to know each
01:57other better, fell in love and eventually became a couple in June 2020.
02:04Sadly, an MRI scan in December that year revealed she had brain tumours, despite being told
02:11just six months earlier that she was in remission.
02:16Still, Cedric was determined to be by Navi's side.
02:20Over the next few years, the tumours kept reappearing, even months before their wedding
02:26in December 2022.
02:32Over this period, Navi underwent stereotactic radiosurgery twice, a form of radiation therapy,
02:38as well as two craniotomies and a spinal surgery.
02:43Sadly, the eight-hour spinal surgery took a toll on her when she passed away on October
02:5021st last year, less than two weeks after turning 34.
03:04Throughout her illness, Cedric saw how Navi would pull herself out of her sadness and
03:09pain time and again.
03:13Her strength really came from her inner self, you know, and I think, you know, thankfully
03:18we were quite close-knit among us and our friends and family.
03:22And so, she was very, very loved.
03:27Every time she came back from surgery or anything else, it was always because of us, it was
03:35because of Mia and I.
03:36And every time she fought, she didn't just fight for herself, she fought.
03:43Navi may no longer be with us today, but she will always be remembered by those whose lives
03:55she touched.
04:04Navi gave her all, you know, Navi gave her all.
04:07I know she tried her very best.
04:09It was a very hard moment, but at the end of the day, she was the one that was going
04:13through the pain, you know, as much as we want her here.
04:17I know I can proudly say that my wife didn't go out without a fight.
