00:00Hi, I'm Dr. Nazaria Cheng. I'm a vet ophthalmologist. I treat eye problems in different kinds of animals
00:07and make diagnoses, give advice to owners on how to take care of the eye problems.
00:14According to Dr. Nazaria Cheng Abdullah, many eye conditions in animals can be treated or managed to preserve vision.
00:22As a veterinary ophthalmologist, she finds her work deeply rewarding.
00:27Amazing. Very humbling. And, yeah, you know, makes me happy to see the owner happy.
00:34Beyond household pets, she has come face-to-face with tigers, tapirs, Bornean sunbears, and more.
00:41I've actually done cataract surgery on two tigers, and that was pretty awesome.
00:47That was a pretty awesome sunbear. Her name was Mama Tai.
00:52And she was the first cataract surgery I did in a bear, a sunbear.
00:58They're very unique, tiny little bears.
01:00Nazaria says looking into the eyes of wildlife is a remarkable experience,
01:05a reminder of the diversity and beauty of the animal world.
01:09I mean, like, you would actually get to touch them.
01:15And it's just amazing.
01:18How animals see the world is quite different, too.
01:21For instance, did you know that dogs and cats don't see colors the same way we do?
01:26It's more pastel-y than what we see.
01:28So their color vision isn't very intense.
01:31But the color that pops when you're a dog or cat is that one, the blue.
01:37The blue of your face mask.
01:40Nazaria advises owners to check their pet's eyes regularly
01:44and seek veterinary attention if anything looks unusual.
01:48Early detection can make a significant difference in preserving vision and comfort.
