Record crowds brave Melbourne heat for 71st Moomba Festival

Melbourne's heat did not deter large crowds from soaking up the colour and entertainment on the final day of the annual Moomba Festival.

00:00Thousands braved the heat today to make the most of the last day of the Moomba festivities.

00:07There were nine floats in this year's event.

00:09Leading the floats was a Wurundjeri-inspired float, which is a first in Moomba's history.

00:13We've always been a part of the Moomba parade, but to be able to take it to the next level

00:17and actually have a float that we can showcase our culture on a different level, it just

00:23brings so much joy and happiness to me and my family.

00:27The final float featured this year's Moomba monarchs, the comedy trio Sushi Mango.

00:31We're very excited to hit the parade, get on the side of the float.

00:35Lucky we have a float because I can't swim.

00:39We also heard from Lord Mayor Nick Rees, who said they're expecting record numbers this

00:42year.

00:43The weather gods have been kind to us and we're expecting record crowds of close to

00:481.3 million people.

00:51As Lord Mayor, I couldn't be happier to see so many Melbourneans turning out, having a

00:55good time, doing what they do so well in this city, attending major events.
