00:06Straight from the streets of New Orleans, a sunny day at South Bank descends into a
00:13jazz party, this US band treating Melburnians to what's called a second line, where a brass
00:19band gets moving and revellers follow behind, stopping by the Yarra River to just groove.
00:30Ending up at Fed Square.
00:34We love the music, we love the vibe, we love the colours and we love the excitement it brings out.
00:38Just wanted to see some good music, you know, and it's free and we're on the Yarra, it's been really
00:43nice.
00:43I used to live in New Orleans for three and a half years, so this is like bringing a bit
00:47of New Orleans here, which is really exciting.
00:50It's been going nearly three decades and organisers expect this year's 10-day Jazz Festival to attract a total of
00:5670,000 people.
00:58We really take over the city with musicians from 20 countries, Australia of course, it's a huge line-up.
01:05This is the Australian debut for the New Orleans music institution, that is the Rebirth Brass Band and as you
01:13can tell they just make music that makes people want to dance.
01:19And the band says they never plan what they're going to play.
01:22The songs they were playing today were a reflection of the people that were out here, the energy that they
01:26were feeding on.
01:26Beautiful, beautiful city here in Melbourne. We're just excited to be here for the first time.
01:31We've been working on this for about 15 years and it finally happened.
01:34The fact that we get to come here for these thousands of people and infect them and make them need
01:39a little bit more.
01:40I think that's, that's the joy of it.
01:44Infectious is definitely the word.
