This is to help free up space in prisons. Do you think this is a good idea? Would it be beneficial to take pub privileges and football privileges away from criminals? Or would this not work in the long run?

Who's going to police that then? So you're asking a barman to police somebody, you're
00:05
going to check everybody in the door. Practicality, making statements is easy, but how are you
00:10
going to police it? I'm not sure about that, I think that's a bit of a fool's paradise.
00:17
In general I think you've got to find the right sentence to fit the crime, and the thing
00:22
you don't want to be doing is ostracising people from society, at the same time, ideally
00:28
if you commit crimes you need to face the right punishment, and it feels like, yeah
00:31
sometimes that's present, but sometimes it's things like community service, and sort of
00:35
cutting people out from other things doesn't seem like the most obvious fit.
00:39
I mean can't they just wear a tag on the ankle like they used to, I mean what's this business
00:44
about banning them from a bar or something, what difference does it make, you know?
00:48
Do you think it would work in the long run, do you think they'd be able to police it?
00:52
Well I don't get why, are they going to go to sports bars are they, is that the first
00:57
thing they're going to do when they get out of prison, it seems a bit weird.
