Today we ask locals: With shops like River Island closing, what do you think our high streets will look like in five years?
Transcript
00:00I'm in a bit of a sorry state to be honest. It's quite hard to buy things and I'm going to sound
00:04really old-fashioned because I know young people love online but I prefer to just sort of feel the
00:09texture, see the quality of it and try it on there and then. So I don't think they're going to look
00:14great. It's down to us really. I mean you know the problem with the high street shops and everything
00:19is the problem with everywhere else that everything is too expensive. What I would like to see is
00:23more independent local businesses. I don't really care about one big brand being like oh we're not
00:29making as much money. We're closing it. Now of course that's bad for people losing their jobs don't get
00:32me wrong but I feel like the shops I would like to see already have a huge problem and I don't think
00:38it's going to get better. I want high streets to be to be there but like I never really shop at like
00:43your River Island stuff. I'm a big I'm a big charity shop guy. Local retailers and stuff like that.
00:50So the more Oxfams I see I think the better.
00:53And yeah I mean you I want I want high streets to still be there.
