00:00Following the death of 10-year-old Fahmi Hafiz Fakhruddin after choking on a candy, Penang has

00:06ordered its local authorities to ensure compliance with guidelines that bar hawkers from operating

00:11within 40 meters of a school. State Local Government Committee Chairman Jason Hung

00:16ordered both the Penang Island and Sebrang Perai Councils to go to the ground and clear

00:22out any traitor defying the guidelines issued in 2021. Co-developed by the health and local

00:28government ministries, the guidelines ban the sale of candies, chocolates, ice cream,

00:32junk food, processed foods, instant noodles, and sugary drinks within 40 meters of a school's

00:38perimeter. Fahmi, a Year 4 student, had choked on a gummy candy he bought outside SK Sungai

00:44Dua in Butterworth. He was left in critical condition after the incident and died at 11

00:49PM yesterday. The Consumers Association of Penang welcomed Penang's move but called for

00:55stricter enforcement to bar hawkers from peddling dangerous sweets to children. CAP

01:01Senior Education Officer Anbi Subaro also urged the education ministry to ensure all

01:06teachers were trained in the Heimlich Maneuver, a life-saving technique used to dislodge food
