00:00Newly appointed Federal Territories Minister Hena Yeo today says her ethnicity has never prevented her from carrying out her duties, amid questions raised over her appointment to the Post.
00:12She said her focus had always been on the policies, implementation and results.
00:17Yeo took over the portfolio from Dr. Zaliha Mustafa in last week's cabinet reshuffle.
00:22Past Secretary-General Takeyuddin Hassan subsequently claimed that the appointments of Yeo and her deputy, Lo Sufui, to the portfolio was a deliberate move to strengthen DAP's dominance in Kuala Lumpur and other major urban centres.
00:38Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, however, hit out at critics of Yeo's appointment, saying to reject a person because of her colour or race was atrocious in this day and age.
00:49Meanwhile, Yeo said she would prioritise working with MPs for the Federal Territories to better understand the respective constituencies.
00:58She added that her priority is to ensure Kuala Lumpur, Purchajaya and Labuan are clean and well-governed on all fronts.
