00:00Perlis UMNO must not rely solely on the fallout between Bersatu and PAS over the appointment of the Muntri Bersar to recapture the state, a youth leader has warned.
00:10Azhar Sudin, the state chapter's youth information chief, said the crisis could offer UMNO an advantage in the 16th general election if the party uses the opportunity strategically.
00:21However, Azhar said UMNO should contest solo and capitalize on the Perlis crisis to win at least eight state seats, but stress that the party must adopt a more suitable approach that is accepted by voters.
00:34The crisis saw the Muntri Bersar post shift from PAS to Bersatu after Shukri Ramli resigned on December 25 last year.
00:42Eight PN assemblymen, including three from PAS, reportedly withdrew support for Shukri, undermining his simple majority.
00:51PAS later suspended the three, and the Perlis state assembly speaker declared their seats vacant.
00:56The crisis also drew criticism of Bersatu from PAS leaders and led to Bersatu President Mughini Yassin's resignation as a coalition chairman.
01:06Azhar said UMNO should focus on contesting solo against PAS in the SG4 states of Perlis, Kedah, Derengganu, and Gelantan, stressing that PAS, not Pakatan Harapan, is UMNO's real opponent there.
