00:00The Sports Commissioner's Office has ruled that the elections for leaders of Malaysia

00:06Athletics must be held this year. The office held that the election of the

00:11present council was based on the constitution before the amendments on January 15.

00:17A source from the office said there is no basis in extending the present council's term by another

00:22year, adding that Malaysia Athletics was reminded to abide by the constitution and conduct the

00:28elections due by June 30. The recent amendment extended the office bearer's terms from three

00:35to four years with a limit of two terms. When asked if Malaysia Athletics had grounds for appeal,

00:41the source said the four years per term will only apply after the coming annual general meeting.

00:48According to the source, certain council members and affiliates have claimed that Malaysia

00:52Athletics President Syahidan Qasim and some council members

00:56wanted to remain until next year for fear of being challenged.
