00:00Muda will sit out the August 1 Negeri Sembilan state election
00:04after failing to win any seats in last weekend's Johor polls.
00:08Party President Amira Aisyah Abdul Aziz said Muda would instead back its partner
00:13in the progressive bloc, Parti Socialist Malaysia,
00:16which is contesting only for the Rahang seat.
00:19Amira said Muda intends to strengthen its organisation
00:22in preparation for the next general election,
00:25which she expects to be called in the near future.
00:27She noted that Muda recorded stronger support in Johor
00:31compared to the six-state elections in 2023
00:34when it contested under an electoral pact with PSM.
00:38This, Amira said, showed that the ideas promoted by Muda
00:42and the progressive bloc were gaining acceptance among Malaysians.
00:46She accused Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional
00:49of ignoring bread-and-butter issues
00:51and exploiting racial sentiments in their fight for power in Johor.
00:55Muda fielded four candidates in the Johor state election
00:58while PSM contested one seat.
01:01All five lost their deposits.
01:03Muda currently holds only the Moab parliamentary seat,
01:06represented by its founding president,
01:09Syed Sadiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
01:11Parti Bersama Malaysia, led by Rafizi Ramli
01:13and Nick Nazmi Nick Ahmad,
01:15has also decided to skip the Negeri Sembilan polls
01:18after all 15 of its candidates lost their deposits in Johor.
