The Washington Commanders, what a season 2024 was with a first
00:04
year head coach in Landover in Dan Quinn, Cliff Kingsbury back
00:08
in the NFL, and the second overall pick a rookie signal
00:12
caller in Jaden Daniels that by about week five, already started
00:16
having his name engraved on the offensive Rookie of the Year
00:20
Award, a historic rookie season for Jaden Daniels and regular
00:24
season performances. But of course, in the postseason, even
00:28
more leading the commanders to the first NFC championship game
00:32
appearance since 1991. In more than three decades, a 12 and
00:38
five season for Washington, a 23 to one price for the
00:42
commanders entering 2025, the 29th overall pick, because they
00:48
played in that conference title game in the NFC $75 million of
00:52
cap space, that's got to be up there with the best of them
00:56
around the NFL. So big question number one DRS for a team that
01:00
brings everybody back or a lot of the key figures at least Dan
01:03
Quinn in a year to Cliff Kingsbury is back as the OC and
01:08
Jaden Daniels. Where should the commanders spend in free agency
01:13
to bolster up the roster?
01:15
Yeah, you need cornerbacks, obviously. But again, the hard
01:18
part about this is teams have played it correctly. Like
01:21
Washington has their quarterback on a cheap salary for the next
01:24
couple years. And it looks like he's gonna be a wonderful
01:26
quarterback all the way through his career. So you do see that
01:28
cap number 75 million. But it's like, hey, let's spend the wide
01:31
outs. Well, let's just say T Higgins never makes it out of
01:34
Cincinnati. Who are you spending this money on here? And you say,
01:37
hey, great cornerbacks. Who are you spending this money on here?
01:41
Because there's not great cornerbacks out here. It's
01:43
almost like you have to build more for the draft and maybe
01:45
make a trade or two, which they could do. But if we're just
01:48
using it as an overall layout, yes, I need a true number two
01:52
slash number one to go with Terry McLaurin. You give that to
01:55
me with Jaden Daniels, that offense is going to cook. If you
01:58
can stay healthy at the running back position, which Austin
02:00
Echler is getting up there and age a little bit damage goods a
02:03
little bit, you see the injury, see the concussions, they do
02:05
have a solid running game behind them. Zach Gertz was a great
02:08
tight end last year, but he's not a spring chicken at this
02:11
point anymore. So some of those minor upgrades here were maybe
02:14
the best offseason acquisitions, just letting Jaden Daniels
02:17
actually even be a better quarterback. But I do think you
02:20
need the minimal upgrades, a couple cornerbacks to go along
02:22
with it, find a true number two wide receiver. That's probably
02:26
the best of the bunch. But again, just because you have
02:28
money to spend doesn't mean you're going to spend it
02:30
correctly. And also, are you just going to blow it on a guy
02:32
that he's not even worth that much money, but it's a free
02:34
agent market with not a lot of wide receivers. I got to
02:36
overspend. I don't want to see Washington do that because the
02:39
game plan is bringing the head coach, bringing the general
02:41
manager, bringing the front office, which they did to blow
02:44
out everything we saw from the Washington franchise over the
02:46
past 25 years. They are way ahead of the game already.
