00:00Residents of Waterloo now have access to digital technology as another ICT
00:05access center was opened in the community on Wednesday. Minister of
00:09Digital Transformation Hassel Barker said the access center serves as more
00:14than just a building where citizens can go to access the Internet as he urged
00:18the residents to take advantage of the possibilities available to them. One of
00:23the things that we use these centers for quite often is that we have camps,
00:27training seminars etc and one cohort that we use and we encourage
00:33quite a lot to come in would be the more elderly people. He says while the
00:38elderly may have more wisdom there are some gaps that need to be filled and
00:43he's hoping this new generation of Gen Z's can help fill that gap. Why?
00:47Technology is not natural to them but they use it all the time and if they
00:52themselves are not becoming accustomed learning to trust the technology that
00:57we may have a gap that they themselves may find themselves be left behind. The
01:01minister says the ICT centers also represent the ministry's commitment to
01:06provide all that is required so that persons can fully participate in the
01:10digital economy. You have a responsibility to help and educate and
01:16train and and be around and create belief in the people who are not as good
01:23in this technology as you naturally are. That's true and you walk into that
01:27computer room and you can see them. I just walked through the room and they
01:30they can do everything and the people who are here to help you will have
01:35their hands full keeping them contained and the creativity that they have but
01:39you also have a responsibility to help your parents. They're not as smart at
01:43this as you are and they have a responsibility to help the grandparents
01:47who are not as smart as this as you are. The ICT access center located at Waterloo
01:52Community Center is open on Mondays to Saturdays.
