00:00It's been almost three years since Russia invaded Ukraine.

00:03For three years, Ukrainians have fought to push back the enemy,

00:06backed by the support of countries from across the world.

00:10Now Donald Trump is attempting to spearhead a peace process with Vladimir Putin.

00:16And amid the uncertainty, some Ukrainians agree that he's the right man for the job.

00:22I think that, thanks to Trump, things have started moving forward.

00:27Even though he's a very strange person,

00:29and that everyone is affected by what he's doing, we respect him.

00:34I think he's the right person to negotiate with Putin.

00:40Not only must Ukraine be part of these talks, but it must also give its conditions,

00:46because the aggressor cannot simply state its terms.

00:49I think Trump is on our side and wants to put an end to the war,

00:52but we must be the ones who come out victorious.

00:57Others are less optimistic.

01:01Trump is a joker. He promised us the moon.

01:04But over here, we know what it's like to hear people make promises to us.

01:08I'm from Luhansk and have been watching this story unfold for 11 years.

01:11I was held captive and got a chance to speak to the Russians.

01:14Let me tell you, the negotiations won't work.

01:18That feeling is shared in other towns along the northern border,

01:22where residents must constantly shelter from attacks.

01:26Peace will only be possible once the Russians stop bombing us.

01:33It must come from them, because they're the ones who brought such horror about.

01:40We must think about peace, but we will resist until we win.

01:45Europe seems ready to help us. There's no point in surrendering.

01:51Ukraine and the European Union have both been sidelined from these talks,

01:55and the EU has been holding meetings of its own with its allies

01:59in an urgent attempt to weigh in on a possible peace process.
