00:14The Transport Ministry is in talks with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry to ban dummy seat belt buckles.

00:21Transport Minister Lok Siu Fook said these buckles are used to trick seat belt sensors,

00:26which can pose a threat to the safety of motorists.

00:29Lok said the Transport Ministry has no prerogative to seize or ban the accessory,

00:34despite concerns over the rising number of vehicle owners using the device instead of wearing seat belts.

00:40Last week, the Negeri Sembilan Road Transport Department said about 30% of 195 offenders

00:46caught for not using their seat belts during a Chinese New Year traffic operation were using dummy buckles.

00:52Separately, Lok said the ministry would provide bus companies with guidelines on the installation of USB ports by May.

01:00This came after a man died while charging his phone on an express bus in November last year.
