True friendship comes in all shapes and sizes ❤️ We talked to Kernel's mom about meeting a woman on a hike who's husband had just died, and how she and Kernel formed the most special bond and see each other all the time now!

00:00Two years ago when we were on a walk in the woods, we passed an elderly couple that instantly bonded with my Great Dane Colonel.

00:07Colonel's always been kind to everyone, but he especially likes the elderly.

00:13You got a little bit of drool on your jacket.

00:18One day I saw that same elderly woman in the woods, but she was walking all alone.

00:25I asked where her husband was and she said he just passed away.

00:28My heart broke and we both just hugged and cried.

00:34We just started bringing her for a weekly hike with us.

00:36I own an off-leash dog hiking company, so getting out there with Colonel and the pack make her days feel more fulfilling.

00:43Soon enough she began to call herself our new pack grandma.

00:46Callie, come back!

00:48Good girl. One, two, three!

00:50So cute!

00:52Can you say hi to Grandma?

00:55She's become a big part of our lives and she loves when I bring Colonel to visit her apartment.

01:07To celebrate Colonel's 8th birthday, we planned a party that also would benefit a local rescue.

01:12The fundraiser portion was a success, but right before the party started,

01:16Colonel's gums began to turn pale and I knew something life-threatening was happening.

01:21Long story short, part of his liver died and the prognosis was grim.

01:29Poor Grandma was so concerned when Colonel never made it to the party and she was convinced that she would never see him again.

01:50Good boy!

01:52When they reunited during his recovery, I could see how much they meant to each other.

01:58Oh, I'm so happy!

02:10This relationship is proof that friendship comes in all forms.
