Turns out there's a bird distribution system too! Sophie and her husband never planned on having a pet, but when Foxfire unexpectedly landed on her shoulder, their lives took a very noisy turn. Dodo editor Tarang shares how this little parrot quickly made himself part of every family moment, including their bedtime routine, which now involves wearing anti-noise headsets just to cope with his screaming.
Transcript
00:00He seems to choose the exact moment that you're not covering your ear, and you will just scream.
00:06Foxfire has completely taken over Sophie and her husband's once quiet home.
00:10He's liable to scream if he's upset.
00:12He thinks that's funny.
00:14Okay, it is funny.
00:16If he's happy, it's just not something you can turn off.
00:20Even though he has a whole house to fly around, Foxfire always prefers to be by Sophie's husband.
00:25He likes to cream my husband's beard.
00:27It's no secret that he actually prefers my husband, which, like, I love my husband, too.
00:34I get it.
00:35Sometimes he prefers me for a moment, but if my husband is an option, he's probably going to be on
00:39my husband's shoulder.
00:41This is a really good sign when they're comfortable on their back.
00:45And what's so ironic about all this is that Sophie never imagined herself to have a pet.
00:49Something really crazy is happening.
00:51Last August, as I was driving back from getting the mail, Foxfire landed on my shoulder.
00:56He stayed on my shoulder the whole time, and ever since then, he hasn't left the house.
01:00I never had a pet in the house my entire life.
01:03I didn't want something to, I guess, distract me from my goals.
01:07There was so much mystery about where he came from and who he belonged to.
01:10But one thing was clear.
01:12This little guy seemed pretty determined to stay.
01:15At first, we were so clueless about parrots.
01:17When we went to bed at night, he just came with us.
01:20And he was so excited to snuggle with us.
01:22Foxfire, what are you doing under here?
01:25What are you doing under here?
01:27And they quickly found out just how loud he could be.
01:29Luckily, they're both veterans.
01:31They had a couple of headsets lying around, which they jokingly started wearing before bed.
01:34And eventually, they got him his own cozy cage.
01:37We started Googling to see if there were any lost in the area.
01:41I was working so hard to find his owners, and it was absolutely nothing.
01:45Nobody was looking for him.
01:46I'll probably spend my whole life wondering how he ended up here.
01:50But at this point, having him here with us every single day feels like the greatest gift.
01:56I love you.
