00:00Rights group Lawyers for Liberty has slammed the Home Ministry for denying that an NGO

00:06leader was arrested by the police yesterday, saying video evidence shows that Suara Raya

00:11Malaysia Executive Director Sivan Dorasamy was detained by the cops.

00:16LFL coordinator Zayed Malik said the video of the situation outside Suaram's office clearly

00:22showed policemen demanding that Sivan follow them to the Putrajaya Police Headquarters to

00:27give his statement. He said the video showed the cops refusing to allow Sivan to give his

00:33statement at a later date. He also questioned whether the Home Ministry had looked at the clips

00:39before coming out with a statement that was contrary to the video evidence.

00:45Zayed added that arresting Sivan to record his statement was high-handed, a blatant abuse of

00:50powers and a violation of the laws prohibiting the arrest of a person to compel them to give

00:56a statement. Yesterday, Suaram claimed that Sivan and its coordinator Azura Nasrun were arrested

01:03after police came to the NGO's office to serve the duo with a notice under Section 111 of the

01:09Criminal Procedure Code to give their statements to the police. The Home Ministry and Putrajaya

01:15Police Chief Idisha Muhammad denied that the pair had been arrested, with the ministry insisting
