00:03The new council for the East Midlands has a spending budget of £160 million, seven

00:09times more than last year.

00:11As it looks ahead to its first full financial year with an elected mayor, the East Midlands

00:16Combined County Authority is setting a £622.5 million spending budget, up from £20.5 million

00:23it had last year.

00:25The increase is due to the authority now receiving significant devolved funding from the government

00:30to carry out responsibilities including transport, brownfield land development and adult skills.

00:36One of the big developments at the Combined Authority this year will be the adoption of

00:40public transport responsibilities to be taken from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire County

00:45Councils as well as Derby and Nottingham City Councils.

00:48This is due to take place in October.

00:51Ahead of this move the authority is set to receive £40 million in bus service improvement

00:56funding that would previously have gone to the county and city councils.

01:00Alongside this, the Combined Authority is getting £66 million from the City Region

01:05Sustainable Travel Settlement for funding major transport projects, with projects to

01:10be earmarked later in March.

01:13All in all, the authority claims that the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire area is set

01:17to see £120 million more in funding than if the Combined Authority had not existed.

01:25Dog owners will have the exclusive use of a field in North Derbyshire to exercise their

01:29pets off the lead.

01:31John Elliott of Vicarage Close in Heath has been granted permission to change the use

01:36of agricultural land south of Moor Farm Cottage in Calo to a secure dog walking field.

01:42In a statement to North East Derbyshire District Council, they said the dog walk field provides

01:46private households and professional dog walkers with an exclusive safe and secure recreational

01:52space to let their dogs off the lead without fear of poor recall, attacks on livestock

01:57or mixing with other dogs.

01:59Hailed as a useful facility for dog owners who have mobility issues or young children,

02:04the field would also offer a safe space for anxious dogs, service dogs or dogs with behavioural

02:09issues.

02:106 dogs will be allowed in the field at any one time, and the field will be available

02:14to rent for 50 minute sessions during daylight hours from 6am to 10pm, including weekends

02:20and bank holidays.
