00:03An enterprising community group's aim of reopening a Chesterfield pub

00:07will gather steam this year following the award of £300,000 from a government fund.

00:12Social enterprise Keku is planning to buy the freehold of the Rectory pub on Church Way,

00:18which has been closed for two years.

00:20Their vision is to revive the Rector's reputation for offering high quality food and drink

00:24and adopt the upper floor into a base for creative activities.

00:28Keku is among the final recipients of awards from the Community Ownership Fund.

00:33Anne Famukong-Bowden, who is Director of Keku CIC, said

00:37While the fund covers a significant portion of our costs, our journey isn't over.

00:42Throughout 2025, we'll be launching fundraising events and initiatives

00:46to bring the Rectory even closer to reality as a vibrant community epicentre.

00:50Receiving the Community Ownership Fund is a huge milestone, but it's just the beginning.

00:58Excavators have started preparing the ground for the construction

01:01of a new Aldi Superstore in Brimmington in Chesterfield.

01:04Buildings on the former Robinsons Caravan site at Ringwood Road

01:08will be demolished during a site clearance operation which began this week.

01:12Aldi was granted planning permission to build the 20,000 square foot store

01:16with 130 car parking spaces at a meeting of Chesterfield Borough Council's Planning Committee

01:21on January 20th.

01:23The committee approved the planning application for a new store

01:26after considering residents' concerns about increased traffic problems along the A619.
