00:00Religious Affairs Minister Naim Mokhtar has called on critics of proposed guidelines for Muslims attending non-Muslim events to refrain from polemicizing the matter.
00:13He said the guidelines were drawn up with noble intentions aimed at fostering social and cultural harmony among Malaysia's multi-religious society.
00:25Naim clarified that the guidelines were meant to be used as a guide for Muslims so they could attend non-Muslim events in a manner that is orderly, respectful, and in adherence to Islamic principles.
00:39Previously, he said the guidelines would cover the involvement of Muslims in events held at non-Muslim houses of worship, including celebrations and funerals.
00:50The proposed rules prohibit speeches or songs containing religious propaganda or performances that could insult Muslims.
00:59Premises are also not allowed to display religious symbols other than those of Islam.
