00:00The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, better known as the Mormon Church, has officially
00:07denied that its volunteers have proselytized Muslims in Malaysia.
00:11In a statement, it took issue with the harmful misrepresentation of their young volunteers
00:17featured in an FMT article recently.
00:20It clarified that its volunteers have never engaged in proselytizing Muslims and reiterated
00:26its foundational doctrine of obeying, honoring and sustaining the law.
00:31Spokesperson Lee Po Beng said the Church has maintained a presence in Malaysia for over
00:3650 years, during which its local members and volunteers continue to uphold the laws of
00:42the land and maintain a respectful and peaceful approach in the spirit of religious harmony
00:48and unity.
00:49In early January, FMT reported that two foreigners were confronted by a member of the public
00:55after allegedly distributing leaflets on Christianity at Desa Setapa.
01:00Police launched an investigation and were reportedly tracking the duo down.
01:04In the FMT report on Monday, the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity,
01:10Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism urged authorities to take stern action on another pair of foreigners
01:16who allegedly went door-to-door at a block of People's Housing Programme flats to propagate
01:22their faith to Muslims.
