00:01DAP Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali said there was no issue with non-Muslims hosting raya open houses,
00:07provided organizers followed conditions such as offering halal certified food and beverages.
00:13He added that such events must not be held in houses of worship or include religious rituals
00:19or practices. Sheikh Umar said that if the open house is merely a social event without religious
00:25elements, it is recommended, and if it promotes unity, it is encouraged.
00:30The Johor DAP vice chairman also said open houses are a part of Malaysian culture that
00:35foster unity, adding that Islam encourages interaction among different faiths.
00:40Yesterday the Penang Islamic Religious Department barred a temple association from hosting a
00:45Hari Raya Idol Fitri open house on grounds that the celebration was a Muslim religious activity.
00:51In the letter dated March 31, JHEA IPP Department Director Marzuki Hassan said the department received
00:58a complaint from Persatuan Anak Jati Melayu over the Tianhot Kiong Association's event.
