The Trinidad and Tobago Postal Corporation is today accusing the Postal Workers Union of employing stalling tactics in salary negotiations.

The corporation says the union is rejecting the 4% offered by the Chief Personnel Officer but their numbers want them to accept it.

00:00General Manager Human Resources at TT Post, Crystal Joseph, tells TV6 the
00:06corporation has made every effort to facilitate the union but they seem to be
00:10going around in circles. Last week the union told TV6 management was not
00:16operating in good faith but today Miss Joseph describes it as just the
00:21opposite. The proof is in the pudding. We have done all that we can. We have
00:26extended grace. We are the ones that have shown up to meetings. They have not.
00:31We are the ones that meet at the table to negotiate. They prefer to
00:37negotiate in the media and via email and whatnot. To me, Marlon, you know, that
00:43speaks for itself. We are the ones that have been trying to negotiate in good
00:48faith. She says workers have expressed frustration with the way the union is
00:53handling the situation. We want to give employees this 4%. Employees are asking
00:58for it. Employees want the 4%. We don't understand why the pushback. The union
01:05executives have stated that in a job evaluation exercise previously conducted
01:10an 18.6% was agreed upon for workers. However, TT Post says that is
01:17incorrect. Senior Human Resource Officer Industrial Relations, Saud Mohammed,
01:23tells TV6, while the evaluation did take place, no such agreement was made. Again,
01:30the provisions of the law, in accordance with the provisions of the Industrial
01:34Relations Act to be specific, it caters for situations like this
01:40where redress can be sought. Why after 14 years if this matter is such a burning
01:46issue with the union, why no legal action has been taken? Because we have no
01:51record of anything. That is so correct, Marlon. It's very strange.
