Energy costs in 2025: Are we paying too much?

With the energy price cap increasing to £1,738 per year, we ask Birmingham locals if they think this is too much. Should the UK prioritise lowering energy costs, even if it means ditching expensive green energy proposals?

00:06looking into cheaper ways of powering stuff.

00:11In terms of how we go about our energy in this country, Thatcher ruined us when she

00:17got rid of the oil fields. We could have been self-sufficient though, but again, that's

00:23history.

00:25There's just been too much of a shift. I mean, he used to be able to run a house just

00:30off dad's wages. Mum could look after the house, look after the kids, but now two people

00:35working full time are really, really struggling.

00:38I don't think we should ever ditch green energy proposals because I think that is the future.

00:44And if you hang on to using fossil fuels because it's cheap short term, we'll be absolutely

00:51screwed in the long term, both financially because of where we get our oil from and

00:57gas and environmentally.
