00:00The Secondary Schools Football League had promised a decision would be made before the
00:04end of the year, and it has finally come, and it's not good news for the double league
00:08and intercollegiate champs in Benedicts College and star striker Darrell Garcia, as the disciplinary
00:13committee has indeed decided that Darrell Garcia is not a bona fide student-athlete.
00:18Garcia was clearly the best player, as he top scored with 25 goals, including 17 in
00:24league play.
00:25The crux of the matter came down to the first 5 matches Garcia played in the month of September
00:31before he officially attended classes on October 8th.
00:34As such, St. Benedict's had all 15 points from those 5 matches forfeited and awarded
00:40to the respective teams.
00:42So Fatima College and not St. Benedict's are officially the 2024 SSFL Premier Division
00:47League Champions, with St. Benedict's finishing 4th behind Presentation and St. Anthony's
00:52College.
00:53However, St. Benedict's have until Friday, January 3rd to appeal the decision of the
00:58disciplinary committee.
