London transport update for festive period

00:00This Christmas, travellers heading to and from Paddington station should be aware of

00:05significant changes to train services due to ongoing works at the new mega station being

00:11built at Old Oak Common in North West London.

00:15From Christmas day the 25th December until the 30th December, trains will not run into

00:20Paddington as crews prepare for a new high speed line, the HS2 and the eventual relocation

00:27of the entire Great Western Mainline.

00:31The transformation of Old Oak Common into a state of the art transport hub is well underway

00:36with 1500 workers on the site daily.

00:40One of the key developments at the site is a giant box being dug out of the earth to

00:45accommodate HS2 services, which will eventually link Birmingham to London and beyond.

00:52Construction is also progressing on a tunnel that will connect HS2 trains to the lines

00:57terminus at Euston.

00:59Once complete Old Oak Common will be one of the most connected stations in Europe, serving

01:04not only the high speed railway but also Great Western Railway, the Elizabeth Line and Heathrow

01:10Express.

01:11If you're travelling over the festive period, be sure to check planned closures and service

01:16changes.

01:18Between the 23rd December and Sunday 5th January, planned works and temporary closures may affect

01:24your journey, especially on key routes like those passing through Paddington.

01:30For those looking to travel on Christmas day itself, your options will be limited.

01:35Only taxis, private hire services, Santander cycles, electric scooter and rental bikes,

01:41Coaches and Dileride will be available, but public transport will largely be at a standstill.

01:47Transport for London has urged passengers to plan their journey carefully over the Christmas

01:51period as disruptions and changes to service schedules are expected.
