My name's Kelly and I'm the owner of Alden Mead Lights Send Display.
00:05
Can you tell us a bit about your Christmas display?
00:08
It's a one-of-a-kind Christmas display that is centred for Send children and for everyone really,
00:17
but it's a welcome space for Send kids and young adults.
00:23
And how long have you been decorating your house for Christmas with this theme in mind?
00:29
This is our second year, but this is the first year that we've gone all out for Send children
00:37
with games, bubble machines, just spreading it into the Send community.
00:43
And how has it been received by the community so far?
00:46
Really, really well. There's been more Send children that have arrived than other families,
00:54
which is what I wanted. I wanted the message across for Send children to come and enjoy it
01:00
and feel welcome and not overwhelmed.
01:04
And how did the idea come about for this display?
01:08
I have a Send child myself. I've been fighting the Send system for seven years
01:15
and we just wanted to pair the charity with the Send community
01:22
and that's why we've created the display.
01:24
How did the storm affect the display?
01:31
The storm, luckily it didn't wreck the display, it didn't break it,
01:36
but I did spend quite a lot of my time guarding it and protecting it.
01:41
The only downfall that we did have is it was shut for three days,
01:45
so we couldn't raise money for the charity that is our aim.
01:50
How has the experience been so far, having the Christmas displays two years in a row
01:57
and the whole set-up of it?
02:02
We enjoy it. It takes a while to set it up, but we enjoy seeing everyone's faces,
02:10
seeing everyone that comes and enjoys it and having the goal of charity in mind
02:16
and just doing what we can to support the Children's Hospital as well as the Send community.
