00:00Subang MP Wong Chen has called on Putrajaya to make asset declarations mandatory for elected
00:07representatives, but suggested that component parties in the unity government may lack the
00:11appetite for it.
00:14There are low hanging fruits. In particular, asset declaration is a super low hanging fruit
00:18because the first Pakitan Harapan government did it, right? Can we get it done? If we can't
00:26get it done because our partners are not interested in this kind of issue, then at least implement
00:31it for civil servants.
00:33In an interview with FMT, Wong said judges and members of the civil service, including
00:38ministry secretary generals and their deputies, should be required to declare their assets
00:42to enhance transparency and inspire confidence.
00:46And hopefully, you know, when the politicians are ready for this kind of thing, maybe they
00:50can do it. But you know, PKI is quite famous for declaring our assets just before election.
00:55So but we don't want to impose it on DAP, we don't want to impose it on PAMLO.
01:00Wong commented after Bersik rated the unity government's reform performance a D, citing
01:05limited progress in 37 key areas over its two-year tenure.
01:10The government had previously spoken of its intention to introduce asset declarations
01:14for MPs and administrative officials.
01:17Despite claims in March that the draft was ready for cabinet approval, no updates have
01:21been provided since.
