00:00Lawyers have hailed a recent revamp of the publicity rules governing the legal profession,
00:06saying the changes will give firms greater flexibility in marketing their services while
00:10upholding professional integrity. Edward Curavilla of Curavilla Yo and Benjamin said the new legal
00:17profession Rules 2025 offers law firms a simpler and more permissive approach to marketing their
00:23services without compromising on integrity, client interests or public trust. He said it
00:29will allow younger tech-savvy lawyers to leverage their creativity and technical know-how to engage
00:35in publicity previously unseen or, if seen, largely frowned upon. The new rules enforced since January
00:421 significantly broadened the ability of lawyers to publicize their services and expertise through
00:48any medium, including print, electronic platforms, public channels, as well as at seminars, conferences
00:55and forums lifting tight restrictions that previously curtailed such publicity.
01:00Senior lawyer Kitsun Fung described the Rules as a strategic necessity aimed at forcing the
01:05profession into the 21st century. He said the 2025 Rules give smaller boutique firms a voice as they
01:12can now compete on specialized knowledge and track record, rather than just relying on being a giant,
01:18expensive brand name. He warned, however, that the biggest ethical challenge ahead lies in preventing
01:24lawyers from promising guaranteed wins or misrepresenting court successes.
