00:00A Sabah UMNO leader has denied that the party was involved in exposing the alleged bribery

00:07case involving eight assemblymen in the state.

00:10Beaufort UMNO Chief Awang Azli Lakat has dismissed claims by certain parties that UMNO was the

00:16mastermind behind the case's disclosure.

00:19He urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the case thoroughly, putting

00:23his trust in the authorities to bring those involved to justice.

00:28Last Friday, MACC reportedly met with a lawyer who said his client was ready to provide evidence

00:33for the case but wanted the agency to sign an agreement stating that they would not be

00:38investigated.

00:39MACC Chief Azanbaki said MACC cannot give a written guarantee of immunity without detailed

00:45information about the crime.

00:48Earlier today, Law and Institutional Reform Minister Azalina Othman Syed said anyone wishing

00:54to be protected under the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010 must first report to the relevant

00:59agency.

01:00She also affirmed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's statement that whistleblowers involved in

01:05corruption cannot expect protection under the act.
