20-year-old cow finds her soulmate — and their rescuers build them a cow house of their dreams

00:00Even though Helen had a rough past, she is full of love.

00:05I love you too, girl.

00:08Helen gives the best hugs in the entire world.

00:11She literally throws herself into you.

00:14Helen really shows us how she feels with physical touch.

00:19Because she can't see, she uses all of her other senses to navigate her world.

00:25She absolutely loves scratching herself up against anything she possibly can.

00:31She's even taken down small trees.

00:35Her ears flutter and she'll turn her nose up into the sky when she hears music and wind chimes.

00:45The senses that really bring her the most joy are sound and physical touch.

00:52She came to us the day after her 19th birthday.

00:59It was her first time in 19 years experiencing new smells, new sounds, new voices, a new environment.

01:05So for those couple days, we were really spending every waking moment with her, just making sure that she settled in.

01:11There was one day where she was rubbing up all over my partner and was asking for hugs.

01:18It was the sweetest thing.

01:19And I really feel like that was her way of communicating that she was feeling comfortable here and she trusted us.

01:29Getting a torch scratch.

01:31With all the extra love and care that we were giving Helen, she assimilated very fast into our new home.

01:37But one thing she was missing is she didn't have a companion.

01:40We were looking to rescue a companion for Helen.

01:43We found out that there was a cow who was 17 years old.

01:46And the farmer was looking for a home for this cow instead of sending her to slaughter.

01:51And we picked up Margaret the next day.

01:53Hi.

01:55Come here, Helen. Do you want to meet Margaret?

01:57Follow my voice.

01:59We walked Helen into Margaret's pasture.

02:02They both walk really slow because they are perfect elderly ladies.

02:06And then all of a sudden, Margaret just started licking her.

02:10It was like they had known each other their whole entire lives.

02:13From that moment on, they have been inseparable.

02:17Hi, Helen. Is that your buddy?

02:20They're really just experiencing freedom, which is really beautiful to see.

02:23You helping us, Helen?

02:25It's so important that every day is the best day ever because they had such horrible pasts.

02:30So we decided to upgrade their living space and create a paradise.

02:35And we named it Helen and Margaret's Chateau.

02:38They have a massive run-in shed that is more than enough space for both of them.

02:44We drilled in really nice, sturdy, scratching posts that they love rubbing up against.

02:50It's heavily padded down with tons of straw at all times to mind their arthritic bones.

02:57There's wind chimes hanging up.

02:59We put a shade sail in front of the chateau.

03:01So that way, if they didn't want to be inside, they could still sit outside.

03:06Come here, Helen.

03:09Margaret.

03:10We also got them matching fly masks.

03:13Come on, guys!

03:14And they were just waltzing all over their pasture, looking so fashionable and adorable.

03:21If they don't want to leave, they don't have to.

03:23They could literally spend all day and have all their needs met in there.

03:26And they absolutely love it.

03:30They're just, like, two elderly ladies who are just enjoying their life.

03:37Finally, almost after 20 years, living the lives that they have always deserved.

03:43And then watching them, like, finally come together and have each other

03:47is just one of the most beautiful things that we've ever seen.
