00:00To news on the health front now, there is no abnormal spread of flu-related viral illness
00:05in the country.
00:06This confirmation comes from Minister of Health, Terence De Alzing, who also notes that we
00:11are in the second month of the flu season, which spans a seven-month period annually
00:16from October to May.
00:19At this point in time, in check-in with the Ministry of Education, with check-in with
00:26all the RHAs, all the accident and emergency departments, check-in with the paediatric
00:33emergency department at Mount Hope, check-in with selective private sector physicians and
00:40paediatricians, I can report that at this time there is no significant increase in flu
00:50amongst the population, either adult or children, that is unusual from any other previous year.
00:59Minister De Alzing says flu vaccines are available and vaccination programs, as well as public
01:05education and awareness campaigns are ongoing.
01:09So at this point in time, there is no significant increase at the hospitals, at the level of
01:18the private sector that warrants any unusual response at this time, but we do encourage
01:27the population to get vaccinated.
