A travelling group of twelve in Tobago is contemplating their legal options as they claim to have lost over sixty-two thousand dollars, following cancelled Caribbean Airlines flights on August 19th 2023, from Tobago to Trinidad.

The group members say they missed their connecting flight in Trinidad because of industrial action on the airbridge.

Caribbean Airlines has responded to the claim, in this report from Elizabeth Williams.

00:00So, they even called us and told us that we will be accommodated on an earlier flight,
00:06right?
00:07So we had to reach there earlier than expected.
00:10So we got there like about 7 o'clock and we were placed on two flights that went down
00:17the runway and came back up.
00:19After that, it had no more remaining flights.
00:21They cancelled all flights for the rest of the night and for days that went on.
00:27Ms. Johnson and other affected passengers met with TV6 News on the issue.
00:32Ms. Johnson said the group later contacted Caribbean Airlines as their trip to Cancun
00:36came to naught for those who did not have the additional funds to rebook.
00:42Every effort that we try, it keeps, exactly, only on Saturday morning and it keeps falling
00:47on deaf ears.
00:49Affected passenger Kylan Kwashi told TV6 News that he intends to take legal action in the
00:55matter.
00:56In an emailed response from Caribbean Airlines forwarded to TV6 News, customer experience
01:01officer Janelle Headley said, quote, this is further to your correspondence relative
01:06to your travel with Caribbean Airlines.
01:09Please accept our apologies for the disruption of our services on August 19, 2023.
01:16However, having noted the above, we extend to you a transportation voucher valued at
01:22US$30.
01:25Affected passenger Keisha Cordes-Gardner said the US$30 compensation Cal is offering
01:32is not enough.
01:33If it is, they could compensate us.
01:34Somehow, if it is, they don't want to give us money, they could give us vouchers too.
01:40When contacted on the matter, Head of Corporate Communications at Caribbean Airlines Dion
01:45Legault said the matter involving the group is under review.
01:49Caribbean Airlines can confirm that further to last correspondence in July, there was
01:59further communication coming in based on this issue and I can confirm that the matter is
02:09under review and the customers will be communicated with in a short period of time.
