The National Carnival Commission says, sometime in the future, Carnival may very well become this country's bread and butter.
NCC Chairman Winston "Gypsy" Peters made the statement yesterday at the official launch of Carnival 2025, where he declared that last season had generated over 90 million dollars in foreign exchange for the country. Rynessa Cutting has more.

00:00Carnival is color. Carnival is masks. But the National Carnival Commission chairman
00:06is seeking to make it clear that carnival is also a major forex earner.
00:11With all the figures trending in the right direction, last carnival Trinidad and Tobago
00:18earned just over 93 million U.S. dollars. And that is confirmed by the Central Statistical
00:29Office.
00:31Peters is urging the powers that be to invest more in the country's largest cultural production.
00:37He believes carnival has enough value to become this country's bread and butter.
00:42Carnival, my dear brothers and sisters, is important to Trinidad and Tobago. And let
00:50me say it one more time. I may not be wrong, but I would tell you that one of these days,
00:57Trinidad and Tobago, when that finite thing that is called oil and gas runs out, would
01:04be dependent on Trinidad and Tobago's carnival.
01:08So let us make carnival bright. Let us make our gift. Let us make it our gift and our
01:14legacy.
01:15The John Cupid Carnival Village returns next year and is projected to be bigger and better
01:19in 2025. Described by the NCC chairman as one of the safest and most wholesome spaces
01:26of the carnival, the village features live entertainment, local artistry, food and drink.
01:34As we come out in our numbers next carnival, ladies and gentlemen, let's do our best to
01:41support them. When you come up here, walk with a little change and make sure that you
01:46buy things from them and support our economy and support them as well. Let's do our best
01:53to bring more people to our country. Let's bring more people to our home. And I admonish
01:58you that when we do bring them here, let's also do our best to make them comfortable
02:04and keep them safe.
02:07The NCC chairman was speaking at the official launch of Carnival 2025 under the theme, No
02:13Place Like Home.
02:15When it comes to the greatest and real carnival experience on earth, there is no place like
02:21Trinidad and Tobago. And I would like you to help me say the other. There is no place
02:28like home.
