00:20proven guilty was both naive and impractical in the current political landscape, where

00:25he said laws are often weaponized against political opponents.

00:31He likened the situation to Donald Trump, who did not step down after being charged

00:35with felonies during his first stint as U.S. President, adding that the Democrats would

00:39have won if he had.

00:42Acknowledging the importance of ethical leadership, Zaid nevertheless said that this did not seem

00:46to account for much in this country.

00:49Bung had been urged to step down following the Court of Appeals order for him and his

00:53wife to enter their defense on charges of corruption and abetment over a 150 million

00:58ringgit felony investment.

01:01Sabah rights activist James Liguenjang said it was crucial for political leaders accused

01:06of wrongdoing to take a temporary leave of absence until their names were cleared.
