00:08As the 28th Annual Health, Safety, Security,
00:15and Environment, or HSSE, Conference
00:17of the American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago
00:20began at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port of Spain on Tuesday,
00:24AmCham TNT's President, Stuart Franco,
00:26made mention of an advancement in technology
00:29that some have welcomed and others have not.
00:32Looking to the future, we are always
00:35introducing discussions on artificial intelligence.
00:38And at this year's conference, AI
00:41holds great promise in improving our operations.
00:45But we must also understand its implications for both job
00:49creation and risk management.
00:51While AI may displace some jobs, it also
00:55has the potential to create new opportunities.
00:58The 2024 AmCham TNT Conference also included a conference
01:02on cybersecurity.
01:04As we integrate new technologies,
01:06we must also consider all the risks associated with same,
01:11especially in the realm of cybersecurity.
01:14Many breaches are linked to human error,
01:17not out of negligence, but due to the inadequate training
01:21or stress.
01:22By addressing the human factors behind these vulnerabilities,
01:26we can foster a culture of security
01:29in which employees feel empowered to recognize threats
01:33and respond appropriately.
01:35Mr. Franco spoke about the human factor,
01:38not just with regard to cybersecurity,
01:40but also in the context of HSSE.
01:43These fast-paced work environments,
01:46the pressure to perform often overshadows
01:49safety considerations.
01:52But it's vital that we shift our perspective
01:55from seeing our team members as potential liabilities
02:00and instead recognize them as assets in our safety efforts.
02:05By prioritizing their physical and psychological well-being,
02:10we can create and cultivate a culture of safety
02:14that not only prevents accidents,
02:17but enhances productivity and job satisfaction.
02:21AmCham TNT's president said the goal must always
02:25be to create workplaces where employees thrive,
02:28not just survive.
