00:00On the labor front, Caribbean Airlines pilots who have been assured by Finance Minister
00:05Carl Mimbert that their demand for a 4% wage increase will be met, are set to meet with
00:10the minister.
00:11The pilots had been agitating for a settlement for quite some time and on Wednesday, Minister
00:17Mimbert, who is the corporation's sole authorized Caribbean Airlines, to bring an end to the
00:21wage dispute.
00:22Communications Manager of Caribbean Airlines Dion Legault says the airline welcomes the
00:27finance minister's intervention.
00:32Caribbean Airlines really welcomes the announcement by the Honorable Minister of Finance that
00:40he has authorized the offer to the Trinidad and Tobago Airline Pilots Association as recommended
00:47by Caribbean Airlines and the minister's statement is clear regarding the offer.
00:55So the company, Caribbean Airlines, we remain very optimistic that a satisfactory conclusion
01:03can be reached and that we can all direct our full focus and energy to the continued
01:10success and growth of the airline.
01:15Meanwhile, Timothy Bailey, Industrial Relations Consultant and Advisor to the Aviation Communications
01:22and Allied Workers Union, says the pilots are pleased that the minister stepped in and
01:27saved the day.
01:28The intervention of the minister, we are grateful that in this instance, good sense has prevailed.
01:37He has approved the 4% for the collective bargaining period that we have been in negotiations
01:42for which would be for 2015 to 2020 and yes, we have taken note that he has also approved
01:52additional 4% for the period 2020 through 2023.
01:58Against that background, the pilot body, the executive of the union will endeavor to meet
02:03with its membership to basically consult and obviously come up with a decision as it relates
02:11to the second period and once that process is completed, the pilot body will respond
02:18as it relates to the second proposal.
