00:00University Utara Malaysia lecturer Kamarul Zaman Yusof failed to turn up for a mediation

00:07session with DAP's Hannah Yeo today over a defamation suit filed by her.

00:13Yeo said she was at the Kuala Lumpur High Court today for the mediation session, but

00:17Kamarul did not show up despite previously agreeing to take part in it.

00:22Yeo filed the suit in 2022 over two Facebook posts Kamarul uploaded in May 2017 where he

00:27alleged that the Segambut MP has a motive to proselytize Christianity through her politics.

00:33She contends that the words are offensive, completely untrue and a malicious attempt

00:37to seriously defame her and is seeking general, aggravated and exemplary damages from Kamarul.

00:44In a statement of defense, Kamarul said his two Facebook posts were not defamatory and

00:48were justified.

00:50In 2017, after the posts were published, Yeo lodged a police report against Kamarul, claiming

00:55that his Facebook postings were malicious.

00:58Kamarul filed a counter-police report two days later alleging that Yeo was involved

01:02in proselytization.
