The CPL playoffs is the present, but the future of the Caribbean Premier League and West Indies Cricket is a burning topic beyond who wins or loses.

And that was one of the topics among the men calling the shots for the four remaining CPL franchises.
Transcript
00:00With all four captains gathered ahead of the CPL playoffs, the focus wasn't strictly about tactics, selection options and injuries,
00:08but about youth development and finding the next group of West Indian stars,
00:13a topic St Lucia captain Faf du Plessis believes will be solved by playing more youths.
00:18But I do think what will be really good for the youngsters is if they get more opportunities.
00:23So the games that they are now, in some teams they might get four or five games,
00:28but I think really when you're getting young guys the exposure to play with great players,
00:33but also at the highest stage, when it comes to a semi-final or a final,
00:38that's really when the growth happens, to be exposed to those situations, to the pressure of what comes with it.
00:45A point Barbados Royals captain Robman Powell can attest.
00:49When we play CPL there is a development of West Indies cricket component that comes with it.
00:55The emerging players are an opportunity for those young players to develop,
01:00for those young players to come through, for those young players not to just be seen by West Indies,
01:05but also seen by the globe and the other franchises around the world and what they can do.
01:11It's important for those young players to get the opportunity, because when I was young I also got the opportunity to play.
01:20With that opportunity I am where I am now, so it's a very important component and long may it continue.
01:27While TKR captain Kyron Pollard pointed at the lack of a domestic league.
01:32Obviously it's about giving opportunity and this is the only time, or from a T20 perspective,
01:37these guys get opportunity to be seen.
01:40We don't have a local T20 tournament that we have been speaking about for the past how many years,
01:46and when you look around the world, each and every team, each and every country, sorry,
01:50has one of those local tournaments where you can unearth the young talent as well.
01:56So sometimes, as Faf mentioned, in different teams, different cases, the guys only play because they have to play,
02:03whereas that is what you don't want.
02:05So they have to find the right balance where the guys get the opportunity to play,
02:08earn the right to play as well and understand the magnitude of what they are playing for,
02:12because as he mentioned, come playoff time, you are not going to, most likely,
02:16if you are not going to make the 11, you are going to go back to your skeleton
02:19and they are still not going to get the experience of playing at the high intensity and the high level that you want them to play at.
